I wanted to start this thread here on the new board...
From Bob:
On February 3rd is the rarely shown MOONRISE. The only excursion into noir by Frank Borzage.
On April 22 is THE GUN RUNNERS directed by Don Siegel, sort of TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT, filtered through THE BREAKING POINT. It will be nice to have a good print of that.

Excellent Steve - Thanks! Will get them loaded into the DVR.
Being new to all of this great information, I was really bummed that I missed Noir City in SF, presuming it was an annual one-time national event. In my Noir poking around today, I discovered, as all of you no doubt already know, that Noir City is on its way to Seattle this month! Just purchased my pass to the whole event. The Seattle festival does not include all of the films show in SF - I was particularly looking forward to seeing Escape in the Fog, but it did not make the Seattle cut. Anyone else going to Noir City in Seattle? Anyone aware of any classic Noir films made in Seattle (a long shot, I know).

I'm excited to see Moonrise (http://www.noiroftheweek.com/2006/10/moonrise-1948.html) on TCM... we've all been watching the VHS copy for years. Judging from the clips at TCM (http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title.jsp?stid=83958&contentTypeId=130&category=movie) it should look great...

Meanwhile, besides Noir of the Week article (http://www.noiroftheweek.com/2005/11/prowler-1951-11212005.html) I suggest checking out a nice write-up about the film by David Kalat (I'm a big fan!) at TCM's website (http://www.tcm.com/thismonth/article/?cid=338717)...

Has anyone else been as thrilled as I am that TCM has been airing old mental hygiene/social engineering films? (Probably not, I have bizarre taste.) I noticed they have been on very early Saturday mornings.
If you don't know what they are, think old classroom films that instruct you on how to duck and cover, the proper way to ask a girl on a date, and how not to dress like a slob :D Topics can really vary, however. A few weeks ago they aired a rather depressing one titled Thirteen about an orphaned boy on the brink of becoming a homicidal maniac!
IIRC, this week they are airing two: The Relaxed Wife and Perversion for Profit. The former is about tranquilizing your wife, the latter concerns the evils of communism and porn.
Most of these films can also be found at the great Prelinger Archive of ephemeral films (http://www.archive.org/details/ephemera).

I picked up the Archive release. I really liked the film.
***kinda SPOILER*** Although one could successfully guess the villain based on the cast alone, if you pay attention during the opening scene... the killer is revealed. I maintain this was intentional, while others suggest its a flaw in the film. For me, it allowed watching the guilty party manipulate his/her way through the film. Which I thought was a clever touch. Whether this was the intention of Curtiz, I do not know. But it plays that way to me.***end of kinda SPOILER***
The film is worth watching for Rains and Totter alone. (Although, for my tastes, the performances by both Ted North and Joan Caulfield leave a lot to be desired.) I enjoy the radio show backdrop too. Would make for a fun double feature with Abbott and Costello's "Who Done It?" (1942).

I was watching for that & there is indeed someone in the Glass , could not tell if it was a cameraman , or supposed to be someone lurking , but i did see that .
As for seeing the Villian in the beginning , i think it was Intentional myself & makes the movie work as Mandrake says , so you can watch him weave his web ....

Kid Glove Killer is fun. Both it and Act of Violence are the least pretentious and most enjoyable things directed by Fred Zinneman. Films like Kid Glove Killer and Mystery Street are a bit like early, proto-CSIs. They're influenced by the post-war documentary styled police/FBI procedurals. You could probably include the Jack Webb scenes from He Walked by Night in this category.

wow , TCM just re-did their site , I hate the way the schedule looks now , you have to click on each movie to read the Description & who's in it :(
I hate it too. However, if you go under the Schedule tab and click "monthly schedule" it will list the title and who is in it. What I don't like is that they seem to have done away with links to the schedules for next month and the month after. I always like to plan my "hit" list for copying months in advance.

I would also add that rocker Chris Isaak's picks also include God's Little Acre and A Face in the Crowd tonight -- which has more than a little to offer film noir fans.

Our friends @ TCM will be showing "I Walk Alone" on Sept. 6th @ 11:45 PM - time to toss out that 20+ year old AMC version! Wasn't there talk of TCM getting involved in the Universal library a while back, there doesn't seem to be much action in that direction yet.

In his book Crime Movies Carlos Clarens called this film "a film noir before its time", and so many of us are familiar with it via Youtube or public domain copies. Well, get ready, because TCM will be airing this little gem for the first time come September. Perhaps a commercial DVD release may not be too far away...http://www.tcm.com/schedule/search.html?type=schedule&text=story+of+temple+drake
Ned -
Can you please send the link for the TCM September schedule? They have changed their site and finding the future month schedules is quite an adventure.

Bob (and everyone else, including me, who can't find it), it seems as if TCM put up their printable September schedule, then took it down again, and now has only a few days in September listed on their weekly schedule (http://www.tcm.com/schedule/index.html?tz=est&sdate=2011-09-01).
The only thing I could find was a thread on TCM's support page (http://forums.tcm.com/thread.jspa?threadID=160182&start=15&tstart=0) with complaints from others like us :)
Just as aggravating as Netflix Instant's new layout, but I digress...
Hope that helps a little.
I got the updates by just changing the dates one by one on the little box on top of the screen. Took a while, but it seems all the info is sitting there (www.tcm.com/date) - I just whent forward one day @ a time until the end of September.

On Thursday Aug. 18th TCM has a 13 film festival of Jean Gabin films, mainly poetic realism, some noirs, with a few odds and ends. Quite a tribute I'd say to a foreign actor. I can't recall TCM ever having a whole day of subtitled films. Needless to say my DVD recorder will be smoking.

Sorry to have jumped the gun here, but TCMs preliminary schedule for the 19th now has "the Burglar" replaced with "The Big Combo". In fact a night of scheduled films from Columbia on the 19th has been reconfigured. Sorry for the false excitement !

Nice! just saw these listed & i have not seen either one ... very cool .
TONIGHT! Jean Gabin in 'Pepe le Moko'. No where near as dark a noir as Gabin in 'Port of Shadows', but has a great ending among other elements.
Airs on TCM at 8pm EST.
TCM has changed the October schedule & a night of primarily Columbia noirs including "The Burglar" no longer are being advertised. In its place on the 19th looks to be "The Big Combo" another brilliant noir. Otherwise, "My Name Is Julia Ross" looks to be still on the schedule for October. Sorry to have jumped the gun a bit, looks like TCM revamps their schedule from time to time.

Just discovered this last night. Two films have been replaced, The Burglar and Tight Spot. I am not happy. I have a copy of The Burglar that I acquired not long back, but I was looking to upgrade. Pretty impressive film, wish Columbia would just release it through their DVD on demand series. What the hell.

Although they have been known to disrupt things by changing their schedule, @ the moment TCM will be offering the following in December :
"Between Midnight & Dawn" one of the last classic era Columbia films that has been out of circulation on TV since Cinemax showed it 20+ years ago
"Zigzag" a seldom seen film from the late 1960's / early 1970's with George Kennedy - I have not seen this one in a long time but remember it being a very good film.
Here is to hoping they don't change things as they often do -

I've seen it, but I can't remember much. I don't recall really liking it or hating (which I would remember even if I couldn't recall the plot), so I would guess it's somewhere in between. I Dvr'd it too and watched it for 10-15 minutes last night and it looked decent enough. If my DVR wasn't getting full itself, I'd probably watch it again. Sorry I couldn't be more specific.
Always subject to change but, at the moment TCM has the following scheduled in January :
The Steel Trap
Hysteria
The Reckless Moment

Someone mentioned this above - but TCM has The Reckless Moment in a premiere on Tuesday January 23 at 8 PM. Followed by Caught at 9:30. Seems like there are plenty of noir fans who have yet to see this, so get it on your DVR!

The Killer That Stalked NY is on at 2 AM the 9/10th.
