Yeah, it's me, Surly. Starting this Monday I'll be posting a week of Romance Noir limericks at my blog, Limerwrecks (http://limoday.blogspot.com/). And the backlog of all of my noir limericks can always be found here (http://limoday.blogspot.com/search/label/Noir). Currently I'm riffing on 1950s sf illustrations by comic book great Wally Wood (http://limoday.blogspot.com/search/label/Wallace%20Wood).

I like this one (http://limoday.blogspot.com/2010/02/tawdry-audrey_24.html):
Here's brassy and blonde Audrey Totter
post grad of film's crime alma mater
She stayed after class
for dishing the sass
and starring on noir police blotter

Hey Surly,
Thanks for the help with the NOIR CITY limericks. It was a nice, unexpected addition to the show. If you haven't noticed, we posted them all at www.noircity.com (scroll down). Your facility with this stuff slays me.

It was my pleasure, Eddie. Thanks for inviting me. And thanks for the link--I hadn't seen it yet.

I didn't know Surly wrote those! It's a small (noir) world!

Well, Eddie wrote a few on his own. Most of them we bounced them back and forth, with Eddie giving them all the final edit to fit "The Voice" of Bill Arney.

This month at Limerwrecks it's all film all the time, with four film-themed weeks. Right now it's a week of Red Scare films, then the 3-D film craze of the fifties, followed by another Film Noir week, and ending with an entire week on noir tough guy Lawrence Tierney. All on Limerwrecks, here (http://limoday.blogspot.com/).

I've got a new thread of noir limericks starting on my blog, posting one every other day. Here's the first, on the car chase in last reel of Side Street:
I drive with a gun to my head
Through stop signs and red lights I've sped
I'll crash from the speeding
or shot, die from bleeding...
and both ways I end up as dead

Right now I'm running a string of Nightmare Alley inspired limericks running at Limerwtecks (http://limoday.blogspot.com/). Here's one:
How low can a joe really sink?
Far lower than most folks would think
A geek will eat chicken
alive and still kickin'
There's no low too low for a drink

It's November Noir all month at Limerwrecks, starting with a week or three tribute to the great Robert Ryan, here (http://limoday.blogspot.com/). Here's a sample, on Crossfire:
Some G.I.s are hitting the booze
and one has a very short fuse
He fought in the war
but wonders what for
because of his Nazi-like views
Surly, that limerick really caught the character played by Robert Ryan in Crossfire!

Thanks, HJ. Here's one on Act of Violence. If you recall, Ryan plays an ex-G.I. with a limp.

He sticks his sore foot in the door
He's limped here to settle a score
To menace the wife
and threaten the life
of coward he knew in the war

Hey, all. Taking part in the For the Love of Film (Noir) blogathon, I posted a full week of noir rhymes over at my blog, Limerwrecks (http://limoday.blogspot.com/). That put me in a noir mood, so I'll be posting nothing but noir for at least a few more weeks, featuring lots of great screen caps. There's a whole batch on Double Indemnity. Here's one:
A blonde in a tight fitting sweater
A femme fatale never looked better
This cold-blooded honey
loves only the money
Poor Walter was doomed when he met her

I'm in the midst of a short week of noir limericks on Rita Hayworth in Gilda. I was taking a break from my Vincent Price Centennial marathon, which will restart and continue throughout October. But I had so much fun writing about Gilda and noir that I'll be heading back to Noir City for Fritz Lang, Tension, Detour and more in November. Here's one on the King of the Bs:
Top of the Cheap
His actors all move in a trance
Their characters losers to chance
They don't come much glummer
than lonely Ed Ulmer
The master of shoestring finance
All these and many more limericks are up on my blog, Limerwrecks (http://limoday.blogspot.com/).

Any fans of The Fugitive lurking out there? I post a limerick on this great (and, in my opinion, noir) show every Friday. I call this feature Fugitive Fridays (http://limoday.blogspot.com/search/label/The%20Fugitive).
And last time I think I posted the general blog link. Here's the link to only those posts labeled noir (http://limoday.blogspot.com/search/label/Noir). Note: The fugitive posts will also be found under the noir link.

there once was a guy who wrote limerick
his film noir ones were quite comic
venetian blind shadows he lurked
sometimes the back alley he shirked
whenever rhyming Mitchum or Bogie or Stanwyck

For Steve-O...
When backed in a dimly lit alley
don't make cracks about hitmen named Sally
And never deride
their feminine side,
or you're whacked in a fitting finale

Just launched a month of November Noir limericks, starting with a week or so on Ulmer's DETOUR. Here's one of 'em:
While I hitch on a cross-country trek
Pull a switch that could cost me my neck
Committing the fraud
I fall in with a broad
Who's a bitch from the hot part of heck.

Over at Limerwrecks (http://limoday.blogspot.com/) we're doing a few weeks of rhymes on the films noir of Fritz Lang. Here's one on Man Hunt:
223
Intrigue of Their Own
He's stiff upper lip, she's hard-bitten,
But this kitten with Pidgeon is smitten
As Nazis pursue,
This odd couple woo,
Giving Hitler the slip in Great Britain.

There's more Fritz Lang on Limerwrecks (http://limoday.blogspot.com/search/label/Fritz%20Lang)throughout November.
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ua4sSU3bK4o/TnzsTV9E4SI/AAAAAAAAIBY/aLjvoq4k41U/s1600/22.jpg
Unhinged Beyond the Door
Did he marry his Mrs. for dough?
Since they paired she's suspicious it's so
There's a wing of weird rooms
Where a mystery looms
And she's scared it's a murderer's row.

This week through New Year's day I'm featuring the great Dan Duryea (http://limoday.blogspot.com/search/label/Dan%20Duryea) at Limerwrecks (http://limoday.blogspot.com/). Here's the first one of the batch:
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yk9fqesdTZA/TrmFxsuHK2I/AAAAAAAAIhs/inEfC3JRTT0/s400/scarlet1.JPG
That he's innocent Johnny will swear
It's the truth but he hasn't a prayer
No jury acquits
In a movie by Fritz
And the pimp will get his in the chair.
