Didn't see any intro threads, so set me straight if this is amiss!

I found this forum doing a "hey, why not try" search on google, and I'm glad I did.

I love noir, vintage clothing, roots rockabilly and classic car photography... notice a trend developing?

Couldn't pick a favourite noir if you paid me, but I love me some Sterling Hayden, Elisha Cook, and Gloria Grahame. I'm also a sucker for bit players like Timothy Carey - sadly underused.

Well... just wanted to drop in and say hello. See you all on the forums :)

Hey, Nauga, how many of your relatives were slaughtered providing cutom Naugahide interiors for Kustom cars in the 1950s and 1960s? (I know, a BAD pun!)

Welcome to Back Alley!

Ah, but the beauty of the Nauga was that it selflessly shed it skin for interior and automotive decoration! ;) I welcome ANY puns about Naugas as it's refreshing to find someone who remembers/knows what a Nauga is!

Interesting question... I could probably go on for a LONG time, but I'll try to keep it short. I have a collection of various things from the 1920s to the early 1960s and while I love the history of the New Look fashion era from the late 40s onward, one of the reasons I love noir films is because of the "everday" wardrobe the average Joes and Janes usually have.

Bad Day at Black Rock and Loving You are interesting because I very much appreciate the western influences there. I own a couple of H Bar C shirts from the time period, and yes, I can even love the Nudie suits :D Spencer Tracy's suit there is timeless to me. The late-ish 50s middle-of-the-road suit that has moved away from the giant 40s sack suit, but not yet delved into the super skinny lapels and stovepipe legs of the early 60s... you can always get away with that.

I love Niagara's record scene for clothing. Is there anything better than 50s leisure clothing??? Hawaiian influences, slacks and short sleeve shirts, the questionable colours! And THAT is a wiggle dress, ladies.

It's been years since I last saw A Kiss Before Dying, so I have to admit I googled up some wardrobe images. I miss the men's hats in that movie, I do. However the wardrobe is so clean and so crisp in that movie, I'll allow it!

Okay, you asked a short question and I gave a long answer so I'll shut up now. And always take my fashion opinions with a grain of salt, because this is all coming from someone with an indecent love of pork pie hats and ricky jackets! :)

Hi, I did not want to start a new thread, so forgive me Nauga for horning in.

Anyway I am new here, but old every place else.

I grew up in the 50's glued to the TV and Detective movies and all movies in general, I loved film noir before it ever had a name. I am also extremely fond of those kooky German Expressionists and all things silent. Black and white rules!
