Get your hands on the Paramount DVD release of Strange Love Of Martha Ivers. It the best version, perfect print quality and no doubt will look better than the Blu ray.
Went right over to pick this up, but couldn't justify the price on Amazon of $43.55. I would love a better copy than what I currently have and will keep an eye on the price in case it drops. Amazon has a habit of rotating prices and I hope they do so with this title.

If not, and it goes out of print, I will just have to settle for the upcoming blu-ray at only a little over $11.00. It should still be an improvement.

Unfortunately that price has only gone up over the last year. I was looking to get a copy for my brother. If anybody wants any Paramount Film Noirs that aren't Sunset Blvd., get what you can.

While this is true, it's also true that the owner of Timeless Media Group is now Shout! Factory, who has a reputation for doing these types of releases the right way. It can't be a repackaging, because only a select number of episodes ever made it to DVD in the initial releases, and this set will be a release of all the episodes, bringing many to DVD for the first time. Let's hope they continue to uphold their reputation by doing this release the right way and going back to the source elements.

Does anyone know who currently owns the rights to The Naked City TV show? Image Entertainment once did and they released 60 of the 99 hour episodes. I was wondering if Timeless Media or Shout factory currently does since they are about to release Route 66 as a complete series.

I think that earlier this month Shout! Factory bought Timeless Media. Image Entertainment's rights to the series ran out a while back. It looks like the hour-long Naked City episodes will remain unavalible unless another independent company decides to work with them.

Some sites show the Naked City series as being discontinued, and a few that still offer those from Image are asking increased prices.

Looks like Fox is finally getting into the MOD business. Nothing noir related in the first wave but it's a step in the right direction.

Well, maybe some don't consider Perry Mason "noir" but I contend that many of the key ingredients are there: some double crossing floozies, murder, mayhem, tough cops, a courageous defense attorney who fights for truth, justice and the American way---and that attorney's beautiful and faithful secretary. In any case, I see that CBS/Paramount has just announced an August release of season 7, volume 1. There were nine seasons, with 271 episodes released. It looks more likely now that the entire nine years will be released.

And Raymond Burr, my favorate actor, is of course the star---and one of the great villians in many of the classic noir "B" pictures.

The DNR on this one doesn't look nearly as severe as it does on some of HD Cinema Classics' other Blu-ray releases. Their transfer appears to give the visuals a dream-like quality. For only $12 for both a Blu-ray and DVD combo pack, it's definitely worth a buy if you don't have the more expensive, out-of-print Paramount release.

Warner Archive just released a six-DVD, complete collection set of all 50 "Crime Does Not Pay" shorts, including those directed by such noir icons as Joseph Losey and Jacques Tourneur.

I was able to buy the Paramount version of "The Strange Love of Martha Ivers" for $37.88 including shipping (new) at Amazon. There are used versions on Amazon and Ebay for less. With the focus back on this movie since the blu ray release, I suspect that even these will start drying up.

Lots of new DVDBeaver reviews of some recent noir releases are up, including the TCM box set "Women in Danger: 1950s Thrillers."

Homicide/The House Across the Street (both 1949): http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film4/dvd_r...le_feature.htm

    Vice Squad (1953): http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film4/dvd_r...vice_squad.htm

    The Big Caper (1957): http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film4/dvd_r..._big_caper.htm
MGM got really lazy on this release, as it's in an open matte 1.33.1 aspect ratio instead of its original widescreen format. I don't know why they didn't release it in widescreen, especially since (if I remember correctly), it's streaming in a widescreen format on Netflix.

TCM Women in Danger Collection: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film4/dvd_r..._in_danger.htm
Three of the transfers look great, but the transfer of The Unguarded Moment (1956), the lone color film in the bunch, looks terrible. Not only is the image quality bad, but it's a non-anamorphic, letterboxed transfer!

What's going on with Universal Studios? I see upcoming releases of a number of Hitchcock films as a part of their 100th Anniversary: Vertigo, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Rear Window, etc. But these are DVD and not blu ray releases (although a set of Region B releases are due out later this year in the UK). Why should we buy these if we have the earlier DVD releases? Has further restoration work gone into these films? And if there has been restoration work, why not USA region A releases?

Universal!!! Don't get me started. They're sitting on a bunch of noir titles. They've only done a handful of MOD's none of them vintage noir. Bah!!!

To my eye, it looks like they DNR scrubbed SLMI at a pretty high level. Not sure if I will like it.
