The 1950 noir Walk Softly, Stranger starring Joseph Cotton is on its way from the Warner Archive collection. According to their official facebook page, they say, "We're remastering it now" for a DVD release, so I would expect to see it within the next few months.

I'd be interested in buying this if the quality of the print is good. The version aired regularly on TCM is awful.

Sony has a good track record on MOD's. The Spiritualist looks stunning. John Alton rules!

1 year from now, December 2012, Universal is releasing a film noir boxset. Likely an exclusive for TCM and Movies Unlimited. Let the speculations begin!

Do you have a source for this info? I'm just curious to know where it came from. This is great news, because Universal has just been sitting on a bunch of noir titles for some time now. I mean, we've gotten, what? A grand total of four titles released through their "Universal Noir Collection" line? That's a joke. I know a few others have been released here and there--Touch of Evil got a really nice box set treatment, and Double Indemnity was a solid release--but they are low on the list of studios that make releasing noir films in the DVD market a high priority. Thankfully, Criterion has picked up the slack and released some of their best titles, such as The Killers and Brute Force.

As far as speculation goes, here's a list of titles that could be included:

    Abandoned (1949)
    The Accused (1949)
    Christmas Holiday (1944)
    The Dark Mirror (1946)
    The Glass Key (1942)
Kiss the Blood off My Hands (1948)
    Ministry of Fear (1944)
    Naked Alibi (1954)
    The Night Runner (1957)
    One Way Street (1950)
    Phantom Lady (1944)
Ride the Pink Horse (1947) - wouldn't it be nice to finally have this film released on DVD?
    Shakedown (1950)
    The Sleeping City (1950)
The Strange Affair of Uncle Harry (1945)
    The Suspect (1945)
    The Tattered Dress (1957)
    The Web (1947)
    Woman in Hiding (1950)
Woman on the Run (1950) - this has a dreadful Alpha release, but maybe it could get better treatment if included in this set.

If you can think of any others, please post them.

There's been substantial speculation (and perhaps even a semi-confirmation) regarding a possible Criterion release of Ministry of Fear, so that one may be off the table, but another potential title to include is A Double Life (1948). If this set actually happens it could be a real corker, there's so much good material to choose from.

Uh, Ashirg, you neglected to mention that this set is also supposed to be effing MOD. That little fact just brought me down about five thousand feet.

What is the source of this information? Seems like it's too good to be true... I don't particularly have a problem if they are MOD, though a pressed disc box set would be a more welcome entry. An entire year is a long wait... can't wait to dispose of some of my dubious copies of these films.

Ok, I've no way of knowing this but I strongly suspect that the MOD business will refer to sales made after an initial pressed run is exhausted. AFAIK that's how the TCM exclusive stuff has operated up to now.

Nighthawk, that is a great list. Let's hope we will all be able to enjoy the noir treasures that Universal has to offer in the not too distant future. As long as they are made available, I won't care if they are pressed discs of MOD.

I believe Eddie has the only good copy of Woman on the Run.. and I don't think it'd be part of this set...

Again just a hunch regarding that Uni set. I reckon it will mainly contain stuff that's out or available in other regions already. As such, I'd imagine we could see -

    Ministry of Fear
    Phantom Lady
    The Glass Key
    The Blue Dahlia
    The Dark Mirror
    Christmas Holiday
    Desert Fury

The Brit noir Brighton Rock (1947) is finally coming out on R1 DVD!

I'm trying to find a list of the other titles that Lionsgate will be releasing to see if any other noirs are due out, but I'm coming up empty. If anyone else finds the info, please post it.
