I ordered this last night. I wasn't too worried about the "backordered" since its release date wasn't until today. If the site says backordered today, I am more concerned. Hoping the site is just slow in updating and they will be shipping out very soon.

You'd think with the long lead time between when it was announced and when they were planning to ship it, they would have enough units to make their own deadline. Maybe they were just overwhelmed with orders and couldn't fill all of them (fingers crossed, right?).

I have no idea how long it takes to manufacture pressed dvd's, but I am wondering if TCM did not even bother to send the order in to the manufacturer until the release date-in an effort to not overproduce more discs than they anticipate selling?

Warner Archive actually put out four Bogie films today:

You Can't Get Away with Murder (1939)
    It All Came True (1940)
    Conflict (1945) -- I'm surprised that this one didn't get a mass-market release.
    Chain Lightning (1949)

My order of Film Noir Classics III (DVD) @ TCM Shop now says back ordered 02/14/12, so that is pretty much a month later.

TCM extending a discount for those of us who preordered the FNC III set. Just got an email saying:

Due to a production error on the packaging of the Film Noir Classics III (DVD), we are forced to delay the release date of this set until Feb. 14, 2012. We apologize for this delay, but we are doing this to ensure it arrives at the highest quality and meets our standards for the Vault Collection line. Your order is secure and we will ship the set to you as soon as it is available.

Please rest assured your credit card has not been charged. It is our policy never to change a customer prior to shipment of an item.

In an effort to address this matter, we would like to offer you 20% off your next order with the TCM Shop. You may use the code TCMNOIR20 to apply the discount to your next order in the promotional field box during checkout. This code is valid until April 30, 2012.

I'd much rather they discount THIS order 20%. "Sorry for the inconvenience, please buy more stuff from us"?! I don't think so.

If anyone tries this and finds out that it works, please post and let us know. I thought of doing the same thing, because I'm definitely never buying anything through their site again.

Orrrrr maybe we should support companies who a) release classic noir on DVD, and b) do so on pressed DVDs instead of screwing them out of there profits which won't be huge from such a release. Sure Ted Turner can afford it, but no profit= no new noir dvds.
