If I'm going to drop almost fifty bucks on a set like this, I'm going to spend my money with a company that isn't completely incompetent. This set was up for pre-order for months, so they had plenty of time to get the release right. They didn't. And to make matters worse, instead of giving a discount off of the current orders of those who pre-ordered, they just give a 20% off coupon good on future orders, which is just insulting. In addition, I called Customer Support earlier in the week, and they said my order was already in the process of leaving the warehouse, and that I would get a shipping confirmation e-mail within the next 24-48 hours. Guess who wasn't telling the truth?

I like new noir on pressed DVDs, but I'm not going to throw my support on a regular basis behind a company that can't do their jobs correctly. At this point, I'd rather buy a set like this through a third party on ebay before I buy it through TCM.

Holy mackerel, it's only a delay, and, you know, shit happens. There's nothing apparently wrong with the set itself, merely a manufacturing problem that was caught _before_ it hit the streets. I see that as a _good_thing. I can see being indemnified for an actual defect in a product, but not for a sense of impatience. Plenty of DVD releases haven't met their initial target dates; I can't think of another case where that alone has prompted any kind of monetary consideration.

...my only Concern is that, although they obviously commented differently, my Credit Card has already been charged about 3-4 Days ago...

Wow! Best News of new Year so far. Waiting for this one since approx. 30 Years ago or so when i saw it on TV late Night. Kinda my alltime favorite Haunted House-Movie. And very noir-ish too! Hope it still holds up well enough to not destroy the fondly Memories i connect with it....

How exactly is that not a problem with the set itself?

You mean, like a manufacturing defect? And it's not merely a sense of impatience, as I've already clearly laid out. It wasn't just a delay, which should have been avoided based on how long they had in advance to prepare to meet their target release date. My credit card was charged before this item shipped, so they lied about not charging a customer until an item shipped. Also, as I've already said, when I called them to inquire about the delay, they lied to me about my order's status, telling me that it was already on its way out the door, when that clearly was not the case. So being deliberately misled by a company on more than one occasion is more than enough reason to choose to spend one's money elsewhere, is it not?

(As an aside, I normally wouldn't extend this conversation so far in a forum setting, since going back and forth on the internet in this way has very limited benefits; I just felt the need to clarify my position.)

Default Film Noir Classics DVD.... just a thought

The email I received noted an error in the packaging, which we know does happen from time to time (a credit is wrong or left off, etc.) Most of us have seen a situation at work where even though a dozen people reviewed a publication an error slipped in.... it does happen.

But it does seem like they're trying to cheap out on this. The future discount obviously zeros out immediate additional cost for the error.

But if they wanted to make it right, why not do expedited shipping on all pre-orders? That, at least, would show they value customers who invest in the PROMISE of a product. My guess is that those of us who pre-ordered this set probably buy 5 times as many classic DVD's as the average customer.

I received this Message yesterday.....and yeah, my Credit Card is already charged (since over 1 Week ago), Status is still 'backorder' and i haven't received anything yet (ok, i'm in Germany, so that probably will take longer anyhow)

    Dear Movie Lover,

Recently you ordered and may have received by now "The Columbia Pictures Film Noir Collection, Volume III".

Due to a production error on the outer packaging of the Film Noir III set, the description for THE MOB on the back cover of the slipcase is incorrect. This will be corrected in a new printing of the slipcase. If you wish a replacement for this slipcase with the corrected information, please notify us by replying to this email, and we will send you one at no cost.

Please note this only affects the slipcase and the discs inside are fine and unaffected. There is no reason to send back the item for replacement.

Thank you, and we appreciate your support of the TCM Vault Collection.

    Sincerely,

    Customer Service Department

If I had received that message (and my discs on time) that would be fine. No big deal. Instead, TCM makes almost EVERYONE wait a month rather than spend the extra money shipping out free replacement cases to those that would have actually asked for them? Talk about compounding a mistake with a bigger mistake. It's not the biggest deal in the world, but whatever happened to making things right for your customer when you screw-up instead of just minimizing your financial loss?

I'm glad these guys aren't delivering pizza to my Super Bowl Party.

Today I received my set from Movies Unlimited even though it is still listed as on backorder in my account! I'm living in Germany, too.

...wow, now that's indeed a good News. So, was yours one of the initial Batch (with the faulty Description on the Slipcase of 'The Mob') as mentioned in the Mail from the MU Customer Service Dept.?

I know many people were seeking out The Steel Trap for trade after it aired on TCM. Well, wait no longer! Warner Archive has it up for pre-order; it will be released on Feb. 21: http://www.wbshop.com/Steel-Trap-The...gid=ARCHIVEPRE
