Hard to say, hard to say. But HBO hasn't dropped the ball all that many times so right now I'm content to look forward...

Wow. I like the cast! It looks like it's not going to be just a translation of the book, but actually inspired by the movie. Notice Winslet's Joan-Crawford eyebrows. Also, the under-rated Guy Pearce (in another noirish role!) as the Zach Scott character. Evan Rachel Wood looks like a perfect Veda too.
The trailer tastes a bit soapy but Mildred Pierce is soapy... I call it a woman's noir. It could probably attract the Sex in the City/Julia Roberts crowd. I say it looks like a winner.
Wow is right! Looks like Haynes is passionate about the material but took some liberties. I wonder why the setting was changed to NYC?! That's almost blasphemous, considering what characters Glendale and Pasadena played in the book. Very interesting...
Originally a James M Cain novel (1941) and then a Joan Crawford masterpiece (1945), this is now about to set HBO alight with a Todd Haynes miniseries adaptation.
The story about a Glendale woman who fights to improve her life and that of her children against all the odds and meets tragedy on every corner has become a modern classic well worth the re-telling in these troubled times.
Is it noir or is it melodrama - and does it really matter.
The trailer for the new miniseries looks very promising indeed:
Meanwhile, let's not forget the original Crawford vehicle:
There's also an excellent Claire Trevor version:
I loved James M. Cain's novel, but even so, it didn't seem as if it really contained enough plot to stretch out over a five-part miniseries (it's not "Lonesome Dove" or "The North and the South," after all).
I'll definitely watch this, though, but probably not until it comes out on DVD.
Rapidly becoming my favourite image of a neo-noir actress - if only she'd make some decent movies - Evan Rachel Wood is probably the best thing about Mildred Pierce and is now paying homage to the Film Foundation's Noir City festival in LA with a magnificent cover spread in the LA Times magazine by photographer Mark Segal.
“For the Evan Rachel Wood photo shoot, we really wanted to pay tribute to classic film noir,” explains Rip Georges, the magazine’s creative director, “This is our annual Noir Issue and, of course, Evan is in the Mildred Pierce miniseries in a role that’s very much of the classic noir era."
As well as Mildred Pierce and her groundbreaking role in Thirteen (2003), which now seems quite a long time ago, Evan Rachel is also well known for her on-off affair with Marilyn Manson and for being a blackbelt in taekwondo.
she was good in Mildred Pierce -- too bad the movie turned out to be quite a let down after a strong start. We could have used more Evan Rachel Wood through the whole series. That kid actress playing young Veda was hard to take...
Any one here record the recent HBO presentation of Mildred Pierce? If so, would like to obtain a copy via a swap.
Thanks

I'm sure HBO will release it on DVD, very soon!
