Two nights ago, QUICKSAND. I'd never seen it before because I can't stand Mickey Rooney, but I enjoyed DRIVE A CROOKED ROAD so I thought I'd give it a shot and I'm glad I did. It's not great - contrivances abound and the ending's a big cop-out (so to speak) - but it looks good whenever night falls and is oddly compelling in spite of its flaws. In fact, the contrivances are so wild and shameless that after a while the whole narrative begins to feel like a nightmare. I was halfway convinced that Rooney's character was going to wake up at the end to find it was all a dream. Lorre, not surprisingly, is the best part of the whole flick.

Last night, ACE IN THE HOLE (again). Pure greatness. "I've met some hard-boiled eggs in my time. But you? You're twenty minutes."

The Sleeping City (1950) Not very Noir-ish till the end, but its a good film with an intriguing story, Richard Conte, Coleen Gray and Richard Taber are great. 7/10

Just watched (again) Joseph Losey's M (1951). Magnificent film, and in my top 25.

    You can download here:

It may/will likely disappear soon, so grab it now.

Use KeepTube, and save in HD.

Last night my girlfriend and I watched Walk a Crooked Mile (1948). A red scare noir not to be missed.

The 7th Commandment (1961), the first of a double feature last night with the noirish cult film extraordinaire, Joseph Losey's These Are the Damned (1963).

The Garment Jungle (1957) with Lee J. Cobb and Gia Scala, who was gorgeous. Pretty cool late 50's noir.

Over the last week, WOMAN IN THE WINDOW (great, but not as great as SCARLET STREET in my opinion), FIVE AGAINST THE HOUSE (pretty bad), THE BIG CLOCK (pretty good), and DEADLINE AT DAWN, which I like better each time I watch it.

7th Commandment is a trip. Losey's film is borderline brilliant, but then I think Losey is a master overall.

Yeah, FIVE was pretty disappointing. The Big Clock is really enjoyable.

Finally watched C-Man (1949), which was at the bottom of my stack of "next up" noirs, until a friend came over and wanted to watch a John Carradine film. Lerner directs this solid noir.
