Watched Henri- Georges Clouzot’s Les Diaboliques (1955), on TCM last night.

The film is classified in the horror genre.

It sure seems film noir to me…conspiracy, double cross, adultery, greed, shadows, suspense, bizarre murder

What do you think? Is Les Diaboliques film noir?

I feel that it's a French noir, w/ touches of horror.

Speaking of French films, I've been getting into a lot of the French crime films lately.

Recently watched Elevator to the Gallows (1958), love the twist and turns and a great ending. Can't forget that beautiful Miles Davis soundtrack.

Tonight i got around to seeing "I wake up screaming" , was not sure i was going to like it within the 1st 20 minutes , after that the "Ride" started , Great film , some classic actors in it & right after i finished it i Realized this is pretty much the same film as "Vikki" ...... Now how many times did i hear "over the Rainbow" ?? ~~~~ Gotta say I loved the Deleted scene they put on the dvd , not often you get something that cool as an extra ....

Recently seen 'The Big Combo' which I loved, I rarely venture past the very early 50's for my noir fix as the 40's are thee noir period as far as I'm concerned, couldnt pass this one by any longer though. Also seen 'Macao' which was great fun, ' The Lady from Shanghai' which I really liked dispite falling into the 'Wells is overated camp' lol. Last nights 'Film Noir Friday' was a humdinger, 'Cry of the City' with Richard Conte and Victor Mature. I highly recommend this one if you can get a copy in the USA? Masterful stuff.

Is 'Nixon Frost' sufficiently noir-stained to make the list? Strikes me all parties involved fell victim to the kinds of hubris, self-delusion and desperation that couldn't have led to anywhere but bad.

Frost ended up with his big moment but but his conceit and that of the whole project could have blown up in his face and left him as ruined a man as Nixon.

    Good film, anyway.

Watched "The Set-Up" yesterday. What a brilliant movie. I think I have to re-watch it with the audio commentary. I'm not a big commentary-fan though but Marty and Wise doing one - this sounds interesting.

I have Grown to love the commentary tracks , Eddie M. has done some great one's , I love learning different facts , Locations etc. I find them to be really fun & learn a lot about the film & the history .
I watched the set-up a few nights back , Liked the look , the acting , but not too much the movie itself , it may be one of those films that grows on me in time .

Crossfire - was tonights choice , Interesting film & i always dig Mitchum , I thought Gloria was Killer in this as well , very different type of Film from the Norm , interesting the original book was written about a gay man who was killed just for that reason & they had to take the movie back a step to get it made ...

Classe Tous Risques (The Big Risk) I love French noir and this is one of the best. First time I've seen it. Can recommend the Criterion DVD which is perfection.

'Film Noir Friday' saw me slamming 'The Racket' DVD into my BR player. Couldn't help but like a film starring Mitchum, Ryan and Lizabeth Scott. Great commentry from Mr Muller, though he really didn't seem to like the film at all. Intrestingly (intresting to me anyway) Ryan in a couple of seens refers to Liz Scott as 'Tommy' Mr Muller picks this up on the yak track revealing that 'Tommy' was a slang term for a manly or manish female. Here in the UK a 'Tom' is a slang term for a hooker. This intresed me as the character Miss Scott plays is a "nightclub canary" in a "two bit clip joint" I took it to mean she turned a trick or two? Hmm...

Watched The Prowler last night. What an excellent film! Too bad there is no decent copy available on home video. This film deserves the FNF's restoration released on home video... Evelyn Keyes is a fine actress and a true beauty and Van Heflin deserves more recognition (he was one of just a few actors to win an Oscar for a film noir role!!)
