Steve, I watched this again recently myself and as usual came away with the nagging feeling that
it would have been a much 'better' film had it been streamlined. It's suposed to be an updated
grindhouse/crime/drive-in flick right? So why in the hell does it run 2 1/2 hrs.?! Wait, I know why.
Tarantino loves himself. Yep, that's it...

My criticism of QT is the same: he needs an editor! Inglorious Basterds was the same. Would have been great if it was 95 minutes long. Jackie Brown could have been much tighter too. I think people are afraid to tell him to cut more.

Just viewed 1951's daffy prison-farm Florida noir, UNDER THE GUN, with Richard Conte, Sam Jaffe, Royal Dano, Audrey Totter and John McIntire. A truly odd picture with moments of brilliance but a phoned-in conclusion... great direction by Ted Tetzlaff. Odd to realize the entire pic takes place in bright sunlight, save for one nightclub interior and one brief nocturnal scene, early in the film.

There's too little of Audrey Totter, but her moments are effective. UNDER THE GUN almost falls apart a couple of times, but maintains a nervous energy that's compelling.
