On Thursday Aug. 18th TCM has a 13 film festival of Jean Gabin films, mainly poetic realism, some noirs, with a few odds and ends. Quite a tribute I'd say to a foreign actor. I can't recall TCM ever having a whole day of subtitled films. Needless to say my DVD recorder will be smoking.

TCM will be showing "The Burglar" on October 19th.

Sorry to have jumped the gun here, but TCMs preliminary schedule for the 19th now has "the Burglar" replaced with "The Big Combo". In fact a night of scheduled films from Columbia on the 19th has been reconfigured. Sorry for the false excitement !

Nice! just saw these listed & i have not seen either one ... very cool .
TONIGHT! Jean Gabin in 'Pepe le Moko'. No where near as dark a noir as Gabin in 'Port of Shadows', but has a great ending among other elements.
Airs on TCM at 8pm EST.
TCM has changed the October schedule & a night of primarily Columbia noirs including "The Burglar" no longer are being advertised. In its place on the 19th looks to be "The Big Combo" another brilliant noir. Otherwise, "My Name Is Julia Ross" looks to be still on the schedule for October. Sorry to have jumped the gun a bit, looks like TCM revamps their schedule from time to time.

Just discovered this last night. Two films have been replaced, The Burglar and Tight Spot. I am not happy. I have a copy of The Burglar that I acquired not long back, but I was looking to upgrade. Pretty impressive film, wish Columbia would just release it through their DVD on demand series. What the hell.

For those who have Comcast On Demand under Preferred Movies, they have The Burglar and Tight Spot.
You guys make me wish I had cable!

The Story of Temple Drake is on at 8pm tonight. A very good pre code and proto-noir http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/91532...tcmarcp-448545
Although they have been known to disrupt things by changing their schedule, @ the moment TCM will be offering the following in December :
"Between Midnight & Dawn" one of the last classic era Columbia films that has been out of circulation on TV since Cinemax showed it 20+ years ago
"Zigzag" a seldom seen film from the late 1960's / early 1970's with George Kennedy - I have not seen this one in a long time but remember it being a very good film.
Here is to hoping they don't change things as they often do -
