Default Best places to buy Noir DVDs

what are your favorite places to by DVDs?

I'm a big fan of Amazon and have an Amazon Store with noir highlighted: http://astore.amazon.com/noiroftheweek-20
The store is NOT affiliated with the Film Noir Foundation. If you want to contribute to the FNF go to their website and buy something cool there (I like the posters and the blood-red t-shirts) http://www.noircity.com/noircityware.html. (The T-shirts look much better than the photos...)

The cheapest place to buy DVDs (in the US) seems to be Deep Discount DVDs. http://www.deepdiscount.com/

The Grey Market: I'm a fan of torrent tracker sites for getting rare movies fast... however - as I've stated in the past - I won't be allowing posts about Torrent sites or Rapid Share-type sites on BAN. Feel free to PM friends here about them if you want but please don't post about them.

Snail Mail DVD sharing is excellent too. And it's a lot cheaper then buying DVDs off of sites like Yammering Mag Pie or Ebay.

What are your favorites? Where can you get cheap R2 DVDS?

    Steve-O,

In addition to using Amazon.co.uk, I order somewhat regularly from daaveedee.com for the R2 noir releases, including the Spanish release of the fine Phantom Lady.

My favorite place to find all of the titles that fell between the cracks (which is a HUGE percentage of noirs) is Darker Image Video
(referenced in Mike Keaney's Film Noir Guide).

Check them out, if you haven't already. I love to send business their way, as they've helped me cross hundreds of titles off my list.

I've used Darker Image many times in the past, as well. The quality varies but they are a pleasure to do business with. They have many hard to find titles.

VCI has a nice deal going on if you're eyeing some of their noir DVDS (which for the most part stink... Heat Wave and Stolen Face are pretty good though)....

Starting right now, you can visit our website vcient.com and use the coupon code POTOMAC to take 50% off your order!!! That's right 50% off everything on our website when you use the coupon code POTOMAC.
Edit: I should say the movies sometimes stink... the DVDs are of excellent quality however.

I had problems with the VCI website. Put some dvd's in my cart and when I went to checkout Firefox said it had an "invalid security certificate." Apparently the security certificate is good only for vcientertainment.com NOT vcient.com-which is where clicking on the film genres took me. Anybody have this problem before? Is their maybe some phishing going on? Or do they just need to update their security certificate.

I usually buy my Noir DVDs from Deep Discount, Borders and Kinko.

I hesitate to add Ebay. I picked up a couple of region 0 from a few Korean sellers. They look decent and were cheap. They claim they are "real".

When looking for a title don't just give Amazon one shot only; although Deep Discount always has free shipping Amazon rotates prices of films. I have been an affiliate of Amazon for a long time. An example would be a film listed for $14.95 now may be $7.99 (or lower) a week or two from now.

I have purchased many films from both when the best price seems to be available and also have an Amazon store on a blog of mine and agree with Steve-O on their appeal as well as great selection.

Check them regularly and pay attention to who made the dvd you are looking for. Those providing the lowest price may also be the lowest quality. Alpha and Image usually just copy from Public Domain which does not offer remastered films and usually will only have the lowest production quality.

I see that Deep Discount DVD has the Sony and WB archive dvds for sale... and cheaper than at their sites.

If anyone has been interested in purchasing Columbia Pictures Film Noir Classics, Vol. 2, it is on sale at Amazon today for $30.99 down from the usual price of around $45. I've been waiting for this price drop and was happy to grab it.

The collection includes Fritz Lang's Human Desire with Glenn Ford and Gloria Grahame, The Brothers Rico with Richard Conte, Jacques Tourneur's Nightfall with Aldo Ray and Anne Bancroft, City of Fear with Vincent Edwards, and Pushover with Fred MacMurray and Kim Novak in her film debut.
