If you've ever seen Robert Montgomery's Lady in the Lake (1947), you'll probably remember Lila Leeds. She was Audrey Totter's sexy secretary who catches the eye of Philip Marlowe and -- by extension -- the eye of the viewer.

I found this article from a few years ago from the L.A. Times blog. It's got a bunch of great pictures, including Leeds in her totally sweet pad and one of her and Robert Mitchum being sent to the pokey for 90 days for reefer:
