    Default Christmas gift ideas thread

Raquelle (one of our occasional NOTW contributers) has a good idea. Have folks post their Christmas gift ideas for classic film fans...

I'd take it a step furthur. What would be a good gifts for film noir fans? (don't included DVD box sets. Too easy!)

    My picks would include:

    a few books:

Tough Without a Gun: The Life and Extraordinary Afterlife of Humphrey Bogart by Stefan Kanfer

At The Fights: American Writers on Boxing [Hardcover] by George Kimball (noir is the sport of boxing and this is excellent)

    and something for the desk

1941 Maltese Falcon Prop Statue (if you can find one cheap... still don't have one yet!)

Check this link for the Falcon. I've seen them up to $150.00. This is not cheap either at $99., but is a very accurate replica.

I'm hoping to find it under the tree this year.

Still while thinking of Eddie, don't forget some of the noir book classics.

The Art of Noir - Full of noir eye-candy.
Dark City Dames - The women we love to fear.

    Maybe even,

Crime Scenes - The Lawrence Bassoff Collection of posters.
Film Noir - Alain Silver & James Ursini

All make great additions to any film noir book collection.

I didn't realize that TCM sold T-shirts. That's very cool.

One night at Noir City 3 this summer in Chicago, Alan K. Rode wore a black T-shirt with the RKO Radio Pictures logo on it in white. It was an awesome shirt, and I want one, but I haven't been able to find one online. Does anyone have any leads?

I bought one here awhile ago Adam. I don't know if it is the same one you are looking for, but it looks like they are still available.

That RKO shirt is very cool. I think I'm going to pick one up as a Christmas present for myself.

I don't know how much still exists and how much things would cost, but any kind of prop from a noir I enjoyed would be great. A fedora, book, newspaper-even a matchbook would be a nice tiny piece of noir history to own.

    Something like this?

Humphrey Bogart's pinstripe suit from Dark Passage: http://entertainment.ha.com/c/item.z...16&lotNo=20355

I don't think I could own something like that. I'm a size 40, too, so I'd be too tempted to wear it around.

Yeah, Adam, that would be a tremendous gift to receive! Tempted to join that site just to see how much it sold for-or maybe I don't want to know.

Even that replica Falcon statue Steve mentioned would be awesome.

I'm a member, even though I've never bought anything. It's free to register, and worth doing just to be able to see how much things sell for and to view larger images ... I've pulled a lot of images of movie posters and publicity stills from that site for my blog.

And in case you're curious and don't want to register, it sold on April 22, 2005, for $1,673, and then again on October 8, 2005, for $3,585.

The person who bought it in April made a tidy profit, and it looks like the October buyer is holding on to it for now.

Thanks, Adam. Sounds interesting. I will probably register after the holidays when I have a bit more time. $1673 for a Bogie suit doesn't seem that bad, but $3600? I don't know. That would buy a lot of books and posters.
