Default Endless Night: A Valentine to Film Noir

Continuing what Haggai said at the old board,

"The Endless Night" montage has been shown several times already in the first couple of days of Noir City 8 in San Francisco, and the audience response has been extremely positive. It's been a great addition to the festival, a very modern tribute to a classic film style. Congrats to creator Serena Bramble!
This video - which Eddie found here - is playing most nights at Noir City and is getting tremendous reaction. I wanted to meet Serena (she took a bow the first night after it aired) but I couldn't catch up with her. Great job.

Thumbs up The Secret Adventures of the Projectionist (2008)

I'm wondering what you guys think of this:

The Secret Adventures of the Projectionist

Description: A cinema projectionist, played by Nikolai Kinski (son of Klaus Kinski) becomes enamored with a silver screen femme fatale and entangled in a dangerous liaison with the powers of the cinema of yesteryear. An homage to great cinema.

There's a film noir chapter at the end, but the whole thing is only three minutes.

    It's on youtube:

and a bunch of other video platforms. Would love to hear your opinions.

Wow... this is pretty excellent. I really like the look of the whole film... Director Max Sacker emailed me some info on the movie:

The film stars Nikolai Kinski (son of Klaus) as a cinema projectionist that gets caught up in a dangerous liaison with a silver screen femme fatale. I tried to keep it authentic. All effects are hand made, the film is shot on old 16mm soviet cameras I found on ebay and the black and white segments were developed by hand in my bathtub.
Mr. Kinski - like his father - looks great on the big screen.

Thanks Max for sharing this! Another German enters the dark city...

    Default The Endless Night

Imagine settling in - alone, as Noir is not my loving wife's preference - for opening night at Noir City Seattle, 20+ years of being drawn to mainstream Noir films (i.e. Bogart's films, Double Indemnity, Sunset Blvd., Chinatown, LA Conf., etc.), but not really realizing I am a Noir fan until recently coming across BAN and then, The Endless Night. I was suddenly and unexpectedly thrust (granted, willingly) into a confluence of emotions - lust, envy, curiosity, familiarity, intrigue. So many "new" films to see, so many actors and actresses to meet. The music, oh the music, hitting somewhere deep and dark and distant (or maybe no so distant) inside of me. Can't get the images out of my mind, or the beat out of my heart. Wow, and the first feature length film had not even started yet.

Thanks to those of you who have been and are are carrying the Noir flag, without you, I would not have had this experience!

I am enjoying the Festival, having been to all of the first 8 films - I hate to admit it, but I had not previously seen any of them before. Thus far, Cry Danger, Postman and Pitfall are my favorites (in that order). In addition to the script in Cry Danger, I really enjoyed the on location footage of "old" LA.

I'll be wearing a blue shirt and brown suede coat tonight if anyone is inclined to introduce themselves (or give me a hard time) tonight.

Thanks Keith. I talked with Eddie last night, and it appears we are going to get to see Endless on the big screen on more time (tomorrow night).

Default Film Noir Short : Sockman

Hi there I am a student film maker from South Wales, UK. I have recently created a short film called Sockman, which can be seen here.

Sockman is a 3 part serial following Detective Harry Steele as he hunts down the serial killer known as Sockman.
Sockman has no professional or financial backing but does aim to achieve the highest possible quality.
I am currently writing part 2 and would love to know what you think.
    Thanks
    Liam

Default My new short film 'Novelty'

My thesis film about a man who loves the 1940's but lives in the modern world. Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Ava Gardner, Robert Mitchum, and some other familiar faces are shown in photos.

Default An Homage (Home Made Noirs)

    Hi all,

First off I want to say that I love Films Noir, and have been on a serious viewing kick lately, last I counted I was over 140 films and devouring all that I find, its great to be on a board dedicated to NOIR.

I have always been attracted to the gritty, dark underbelly of society, the other side of the tracks if you will, and I started to express that attraction in drawings and paintings and have since progressed to video so here I share some pieces I've helped to create with you. Enjoy.

First up is "Tony Mars A Case of Murphy's Law" most of the images are from Hudson, NY which was the location for the bank job in one of the last Film Noirs Odds Against Tomorrow, and more recently for Paul Newman's Nobody's Fool. Music is "Harlem Nocturn" & the TCM late night bumper.

Next is a homage to Femme Fatale's "Not Tonight" music is from opening credits to Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and the TCM late night bumper. Opening title sequence is an homage to Kiss Me Deadly

Finally A historical photo montage study of images of screen icons both femme fatales and private eyes, etc., collected from classic films noir, pulp fiction & magazine cover art, 1950-60's TV crime thrillers, and historical photos showing the influence and their various reflections and upon fashion, style, and current neo noir cinema and graphic novels. < WARNING SOME ADULT CONTENT>

We are having fun doing these short Film Noir vignettes here is the latest called T.N.T.

With Nods to "Crime Jazz" and NYC Noir with the title music from The Big Combo and the Louis Busch Orchestra doing "Street Scene '58", it ends with a Tom Waits cover of "Invitation to The Blues", enjoy ;-).

This is a good idea for a thread... I will put all "student films" and "home made noir" here with Mr. Cigar Joe's films (very nice, btw)...
