Ruth Warrick made her film debut in Citizen Kane (1941). After that it was all downhill...The Corsican Brothers (1941), Journey into Fear (1943), John Brahm's moody psychological melodrama Guest in the House (1944), Swell Guy (1946), Daisy Kenyon (1947), and the alcoholism exploitation film, One Too Many (1950). In the 1950s Warrick found steady work in television, where she acted in a series of soap operas. The last of these was All My Children, on which she appeared from 1970 until her death in 2005.

Short for time this morning. Today's noir birthdays are Susan Hayward (1917-1975) and Glenda Farrell (1904–1971).

This haunting sequence from Laughton's Night of the hunter was one of the formative film moments of my life. It defined film art for me: deeply personal and idiosyncratic, yet as universal as a fairy tale.
