Has anyone viewed the Film Chest Blu ray version of "The Strange Love of Martha Ivers" yet? Is the Paramount DVD better or worse?

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/dvdrev...tha_ivers_.htm review and comparison here, I'm a blu ray fan, but the DVD still looks better to my eyes.

Just received the blu-ray and watched it two days ago. I would have to agree with the DVD Beaver review and Nighthawks' opinion (in our other dvd thread) that, while the blu-ray is better than the older dvd I own, it's not as good as the Paramount version.

If the Paramount cost is within your budget, go for it!

Thanks. I ordered a new copy of the Paramount DVD version and I will send back the blu ray unopened.

Double Indemnity gets a very good review for video quality on this blu-ray. I sure hope this gets a North American release.

If you want to see a comparison between the DVD and Blu-ray releases of Double Indemnity (1944), here's the DVDBeaver comparison link: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDRev...dvd_review.htm

Transfer looks stunning. Masters of Cinema are great, pretty much the UK version of Criterion. Anyway can't wait to get my hands on this. Apparently heavily rumoured to be hitting stateside at some point this year.

Billy Wilder's The Lost Weekend (1945) is also coming out on Blu-ray from Masters of Cinema in the UK on June 25. Here's the advance review of the transfer from DVDBeaver: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film4/blu-r...nd_blu-ray.htm

It looks like it will be a fantastic release.

Wouldn't you know it, but Bluray.com revealed today that Universal is releasing a domestic version of the massive Hitchcock blu ray set.

Orson Welles' noir-tinged Macbeth (1948) is set for a Sept. 18 release on blu-ray and DVD from Olive Films.

The DVDBeaver review of Olive's blu-ray release of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) is up: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDRev..._snatchers.htm

It looks like there might be a bit of DNR happening here, but overall, it looks very good. It's great that they kept the original 2:1 Superscope AR.

Sept. 25 has been set as the release date for the Region A (i.e. Region 1) blu-ray set of "Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection." Here's a look at the set:

DVD Savant has a review of Olive's blu-ray release of INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1956) available here: http://www.dvdtalk.com/dvdsavant/s3910body.html

He discusses the political interpretations of the film, naturally, but neglects to mention that director Don Siegel denied any political subtext was intended (whether one believes him or not). He does, however, discuss the unfortunate lack of extras on the release: "The only drawback is that the licensing deal with Viacom/Paramount did not allow for extras. I've been made aware of a full documentary by Scott Devine that was filmed and edited for a cancelled DVD release in 2004. It had the involvement of both Kevin McCarthy and Dana Wynter, as well as genre authority Bill Warren and director- Sci-fi enthusiast Joe Dante." Regardless, I'm happy to be getting material like this on pressed discs at all at this point.

Also, Olive has apparently cancelled some Paramount releases, including, sadly, William Dieterle's THE TURNING POINT (1952).

I don't get why they'd put a restriction on special features. I would love to see the documentary that was planned for the '04 release.

Bad news about the canceled releases, too! Do you have a list (or a link to a list) of the films they no longer plan to release?
