I'm pumped about this one.
No relation to the 1950's The Lawless -- Joseph Losey's gem, but looks more like Thunder Road X5.

The director of Lawless John Hillcoat made one heck of a brilliant film in The Proposition (2005). A great intense western that recalls both Peckinpah and Leone in equal measure. Been anticipating Lawless as well for some time. Early word from Cannes is mixed with many fans of the director calling it a disappointment. Interestingly enough, the director of the other great modern western from last decade Andrew Dominik (The Assassination Of Jesse James) also has a neo noir debuting at Cannes. His Killing Them Softly (from the book Cogan's Trade by George V. Higgins) is getting much better notices at this point. Either way both are certainly on my radar along with Anderson's The Master and Cronenberg's Cosmopolis.

Ray Liotta needs to be in a good movie again. I've been on a kick watching is 90s Pulp Fiction/Good Fellas inspired crime films on Netflix this month. The movies are all style and no substance but Liotta is always good.
And is that Sam Shepard? Nice to see him in something too!
