Default Christopher Nolan on Film vs. Digital

Here's a great article about Christopher Nolan's flat-out refusal to switch to digital because he thinks (correctly) that shooting on film gives the viewer the best possible viewing experience. He talks about how he even has dailies printed up each day to watch. http://www.thewrap.com/movies/articl...-not-art-43501

I completely agree with him. I went to see The Avengers recently, and the visual experience was not great. The film looked like it was shot on a cheap digital camera instead of on film. It's getting harder and harder to find theaters that will actually shows actual prints of movies instead of digital projections.

I am in the same camp as you and Mr. Nolan. However, the future continues to move toward digital filming. Overall film production costs make digital the most comfortable option financially, especially for independent films.

Here is an article, on the same subject, in the New York Times you may find interesting, http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/20...-side-by-side/

And then you have this, which was in the news fairly recently. Peter Jackson's new Hobbit film will be released in "a crazy number of formats: 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D, each in the traditional 24-frames style and the new 48-frames version." A problem? The 48 fps is so real looking it's fake, giving that old BBC soap opera feel
