Default Seeing Film Noirs on the big screen...

Christmas has come early for me. I got the newsletter from the Colonial Theatre (Phoenixville, PA), best know as the movie theater used in the 1950's "The Blob," and they are featuring Film Noirs every Sunday in September. I could see "Laura", "The Lost Weekend", "The Killers", "Out of the Past", and "Sorry, Wrong Number."

The only problem is I have a 5 month old, so the babysitter might break the bank.

Gosh I feel like I definitely have to see "Laura" on the big screen no matter what, but "The Killers" and "Out of the Past" seem almost mandatory too. And to make matters worse I've never seen "The Lost Weekend" or "Sorry, Wrong Numbers" meaning really I should go see those.

Still, what a great problem to have!

    John

I grew up twenty minutes from this theater! It's a great place to see a film. Their website also says that all of the noirs will screen from 35mm prints, which is great.

Yeah, it definitely takes the magic away if they're just popping in a DVD, so I'm glad this will be the real deal.

I just noticed this thread. For many years I've tried to see films for the first time on the screen. Having NOIR CITY CHICAGO has become a great help seeing noir on film. Just last night I saw Joseph Losey's THE BIG NIGHT here in Chicago at the Portage theater. A very good film, and at moments a startling one (the scene with the night club singer). I see a direct line from this to REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE. Along with THE PROWLER (which I saw at NOIR CITY), it suggests almost an alternative history of American film nor--What if the blacklist hadn't exiled directors Losey, Cy Endfield, Jules Dassin, etc., and they were allowed to continue a more socially conscious, realist-based, less pulp-derived noir?
