    Default Black Book (2006)

I had the chance to watch Paul Verhoeven's film Black Book last night. For it's 2 and a half hours, I found the film to be thrilling and beautiful to look at. Paul Verhoeven is known for his films Robocop, Basic Instinct, and the epic masterpiece, Showgirls, but Black Book is his best film so far and actually can be taken seriously.

Black Book does have it's hints of Verhoeven trashiness but it doesn't take away from the story. Carice van Houten gives a believable and likable performance, and also good to look at.

It's an entertaining war action/thriller with a little bit of everything. I recommend it.

yup - this film has been mentioned before it is really good. You might be interested to know that there is a companion film for this called Winter in Wartime, about an RAF pilot shot down over the Netherlands and found by a boy

I think it has the same producer.

    Both great, great films.

On the same theme, could I also recommend Sophie Scholl, which touched me very deeply. There's one moment when Sophie's being interrogated when I actually tasted the fear.

You can in fact see the whole film on Youtube - and you should, it really is that important.
