just returned from a superb evening at the Academy on Wilshire. A new 35mm print of The Strange Love of Martha Ivers (1946) and my filmed interview of Kirk Douglas discussing his debut film both on the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre big screen. The highlight was the surprise guest appearance of noir iconess Lizabeth Scott who chatted with before the screening. Miss Scott- who co-starred in Martha Ivers with Van Heflin and Barbara Stanwyck- spoke on stage with the Academy's Randy Haberkamp after the film.

I had a discussion about Liz Scott recently. I think she's a limited actress but comes across very well (and sexy) in Martha Ivers. She almost never makes appearances so this is a big thing...

The highlight of the evening was the opportunity to talk with Miss Scott at a reception before the screening. I found her to be charming and still with it at age 87. She is extremely shy and insecure about personal appearances; I and others who were there quietly reassured her that she was among friends which she appreciated. Hopefully, she wlll come out again soon to a film noir festival where her presence would be greatly appreciated.

I wonder what the best edition is on DVD; probably none of them, yet.
I've been looking for Lizabeth Scott's album. She sings.
She co-stars with Elvis in his best film -- and I think one of her best -- and I've always wanted to ask her about it.

It's out of print for some reason now but you can shop around for it. DVD Beaver did a comparison and found it excellent compared to other releases.

Alan: You have to work your charm and get Liz at one of the Noir Festivals. She's one of the only noir icons left! The crowd reaction would be amazing.

That print is great quality (Paramount DVD) I can vouch for that. Great film too, lizabeth Scott is great in it, certainlyone of her best perfomances and I've seen most of her noir work.

Ah the poor man's Lauren Bacall. Off track I guess, but I absolutely loved her in Too Late For Tears what a great film that is. I really liked Don DeFore in this movie too. Don DeFore the poor man's Edmond O'Brien.
