Affleck to direct Tales from Gangster Squad?

Warner Bros have leaked the news that Ben Affleck has been offered the chance to direct Tales from Gangster Squad.

Focussing on the LA police attempts to hound Al Capone's man, Mickey Cohen out of the city in the forties, the movie is based on a series of articles by award-winning journalist Paul Lieberman. Cohen had been sent to LA by Murder Inc's Meyer Lansky to keep an eye on Bugsy Siegel's burgeoning empire. At first, working with Siegel to launder gambling money through nightclubs, casinos, petrol stations and even ice-cream parlours, he eventually decided to try to build an empire of his own in LA.

Sounds like, if handled correctly, it could be a great movie.



Mickey Cohen - who would you have playing his role?

I think Affleck's a better director than he is an actor... this may not turn out half bad as long as the screenplay is tight.

When LA Confidential came along, most of the actors weren't as well known. I think this story would do well with a similar treatment casting wise. Period pieces are easily ruined by miscasting a household celebrity.
