Most of us know that Humphrey Bogart was a keen chess player and he once drew a game against international grandmaster Samuel Reshevsky in a simultaneous exhibition - a noteworthy feat.

Not many people know, however, that his wife Lauren Bacall was also a pretty good player. You can check out a record of a game they played here:

Lauren, who's playing black, loses it on the fifth move by pushing her queen too far forward in an impetuous move that is somehow in keeping with her character. However, when Bogie counter-attacks, she defends well, guarding her lower right echelon. But Bogie is relentless and slowly wears her down. She eventually resigns when it is clear that Bogie's knight will protect the promotion of his pawns on her left hand side.

It's actually a pretty good game and Lauren's no pushover - an equal match for Bogie all the way - just like in the movies.
