With the options for viewing dvd's without having to purchace them gradually disappearing, Netflix has a rapidly growing number of offerings. I had better get off my butt and subscribe.

This is another list of films that include many that I am unfamiliar with; a gold mine for Noir/Mystery/Suspense fans who up until now have had limited availability to many of these films.

Not only that, but every print I have seen is fantastic--Sirk's SLEEP MY LOVE glows luminously. And THE SCAR is the best rendition of Alton's sublime work on this flick I have ever seen. And the 35 mm restoration of CRY DANGER is up, as well. All hail Paramount for unlocking its vaults!

There's just so much added... I forgot The Lawless and more than a few other noirish titles. A huge increase of westerns like the rare John Payne western The Vanquished were also included.

Netflix streaming is on just about every DVD player and game console right now... in addition to watching on your computer you can easily watch these titles on your TV.

I just noticed that one of the very most sought-after titles from Paramount's vault, Cagney's only directorial effort, SHORT CUT TO HELL (57) just added. Netflix is adding new material virtually every day. With no fanfare, which amazes me.

Is there a way to download these titles to my hard drive for later viewing ?

not that I know of... someone will figure it out I'm sure. I'm pretty satisfied just watching them on Netflix. They look great on my big screen. I notice there's a bunch of MGM titles (including UA films) in addition to the Paramount titles. Now if they could get more WB movies.

In a case of never being satisfied: the widescreen Paramount holdings getting a release on Netflix, alas, are not (except for opening credits) formatted to correct aspect ratio. In the case of VistaVision (HELL'S ISLAND, SHORT CUT TO HELL), the Academy ratio doesn't do complete violation to the frame; but Republic's WS system ("Naturama") has prompted Pan and Scan (ACCUSED OF MURDER), sometimes to dizzying and frustrating effect.

Netflix online streaming now takes up 25% or more of all internet bandwidth in use in the US during "prime time" hours-more than twice as much as YouTube.
Netflix has stopped acquiring every new dvd out there due its streaming, I suppose. Some of the new noir releases are just not being acquired by them. No Orchids for Miss Blandish is not even available either way. I have the streaming available on my Wii, but have rarely used it up to now.

I was happy to find No Man of Her Own (1950) with Barbara Stanwyck was available on streaming Netflix. I've wanted to see that one for a while.

The Paramount titles (like the great No Man of Her Own) on Netflix look great... but Republic ones are another story. Plunder Road looks like the old VHS copy (with the Regalscope image over-cropped on both sides!) and the boxing noir Champion is colorized.

Yeh , that was kinda my question , but i wonder if you took an out of whatever you were streaming through & put it into a vcr or a dvd recorded what you would get ? I am guessing they have some sort of Scramble or something .
So if you have netflix can you stream unlimited movies for your monthly charge ?

There is something called a Roku XDS that has conventional outputs for RCA connections that may work. If there is scrambling it is probably the standard MacroVision that most DVD have within them. I wonder if streaming films carry copyguard at all? Maybe someone with more technical knowhaow can come forward with an answer?

It looks like Streaming Media Recorder would do it - but I don't know if it would be legal - it might also be against your Netflix subscriber agreement.

I figured there must be some software that would do it , I am guessing you can stream movies to watch on your computer then with netflix ?

I would think just as tv your not supposed to make a copy , but i would think as long as your not distributing them in huge numbers & also it's cool when you support the films if they do indeed come to dvd , i don't see the big deal .
Maybe after the holidays when things cool down , i may have to get an account with them .

Roku (a great box) has macrovision protection preventing you from recording Netflix off of it... similar to what DVD players do

So you can stream Netflix wireless ?....I ask because my internet connection is down the hall.

I don't feel like paying Verizon/FIOS to come back and wire it closer to the TV.

Is PLUNDER ROAD in its correct aspect ratio on Netflix?
