    Default Happy Birthday Bogie!!

Probably everyone knows that Humphrey Bogart was born on Christmas Day, 1899 - he would be 111 today - but I wonder how many know that his co-star in The Maltese Falcon, Barton MacLane (who played Lt Dundy) was also born on Christmas day?

Here he is in Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye with the tragic Barbara Payton:

Let's not forget that today is also Marguerite Churchill's birthday - she would have been 100 today. She entertained us in such movies as Charlie Chan Carries On and Dracula's Daughter. What a lovely outfit she's wearing. Certainly enhances her best features in my eyes - both of them:

One of my favourite all-time actors, Mike Mazurki is also a Natalian - he would be 103 today. It would take too long to list all my favourite Big Mike films, but amongst them are Murder, My Sweet (of course); Dick Tracy, Detective; Mysterious Intruder (one of The Whistler movies, which also starred Barton MacLane); Nightmare Alley and of course the magnificent I Walk Alone

Great Ham-in-Chief Dick Miller is also a Christmas Baby - and I'm pleased to say still with us at a sprightly 82. Who could possibly forget Bucket of Blood and Little Shop of Horrors (despite trying very hard to over the years). Whilst we are dallying in fantasy, remember Rod Serling was also born on Christmas Day.

Finally Helen Twelvetrees, probably best known for thirties mob movies such as Bad Company, Unashamed and Now I'll Tell. Helen would be 102, if she hadn't killed herself at 49, and joins us in our double-celebration.

Oh, and don't forget tomorrow, Boxing Day in the UK, is Richard Widmark and Elisha Cook Jnr's birthday - Elisha looks pleased about it............
